22 Million UK households face higher energy bills as the price cap increases 6.4%
On 25th February, energy regulators Ofgem announced an increase in the energy bill price cap of a huge 6.4%.
That’s staggering.
This hike makes it the THIRD consecutive quarter that the price cap has risen.
And it went way beyond the 5% that top analysts had forecast.
That’s a rise of £111, taking the energy bill price cap up to £1,849 per year.
This is despite countless promises from the government to lower energy bills that have been unfulfilled. And the end result is millions of people being another £111 worse off.
So much for an end to the energy crisis, eh?!
But why does this keep happening? How can they possibly keep going up?
It’s simple.
The longer as a country we continue relying on offshore, fossil fuels for our energy, the longer we’ll continue to be victims of a turbulent offshore energy market.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work that one out.
And whilst it seems the government is struggling to understand this at a state level, there actually are things that we can do on an individual level to protect our homes and businesses from turbulent energy prices.
Now we could give the standard advice of cutting down on your usage. Or trying to barter with the energy companies.
Bu the reality is none of them will really offset a big energy bill price cap increase.
By far the simplest way in which we the people can cut down on our energy bills, and offset rising costs, is by changing the source of that energy altogether.
Not by switching your energy supplier and plastering over the problem,
But by investing into renewable energy sources like solar panels that actually GUARANTEE you lower energy bills.
According to a recent report by The Eco Experts, the average UK home could save up to 70% on their annual energy bills by installing solar panels.
That works out to be £1,294 that you won’t have to pay to the National Grid – you’ll be generating it yourself, free of charge.
And that’s just by using solar panels alone.
It doesn’t even factor in the difference additional battery storage would make.
As installers ourselves, we often recommend to our customers that they pair their solar systems with battery storage.
Reason being that if you play your cards right, the savings are literally too good to miss.
When our customers add batteries to their home energy set up, we hook them on to the off-peak energy tariff. This is much cheaper than the standard rate of electricity, and can be used to force-charge their battery storage during off-peak hours.
This energy is then held within the battery, and can then be used during peak hours. Meaning even less need to buy expensive energy from the grid.
Using this method, we’ve actually seen many of our customers wipe out their energy bill COMPLETELY.
